About Owen Oppenheimer

Owen Oppenheimer (b. USA, 1969) did his BA(Hons) in Fine Art at Cheltenham School of Art, followed by postgraduate studies at l’Institut des Hautes Etudes en Arts Plastique in Paris and the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. His work has been shown in exhibitions internationally, screened at film festivals in Europe,  Asia and Africa, and broadcast on tv in the UK and the Netherlands. In his other life as a film editor he has also worked on numerous music videos for amongst others, Kylie Minogue, Jack White and David Bowie.

Oppenheimer’s artwork explores trapped psychological states; thwarted ambition, frustration, failure, loss.  His practice includes prints, objects, films and installations, all shot through with a mordant sense of humour. Like something glimpsed out of the corner of one’s eye. Or scraped out of it.

He lives and works in London.

Unfound Objects. An ongoing series of works that closely resemble the ephemera of everyday life – pages torn from a comic book, discarded matchbooks, an instruction manual – whose messages offer a sly commentary on contemporary anxiety.
