Llull Machines is founded by artist Danil Gertman and musician Grundik Kasyansky. They create audio-visual artefacts with live digital drawings/projections on an iPad app Tagtool and live electronic music. These artefacts are neither ‘live animation’, nor ‘live drawings with the music accompaniment’, nor #visuals to accompany electronic music’. Their means of work are surprisingly similar; we both use all ten fingers. In the manner of its operation Tagtool resembles an electronic music instrument – part synthesizer, part sampler. Everything is created in real time, no templates or preparations are used, Grundik’s setups and approaches are as painterly or sculptural as musical. Occasionally, Llull Machines collaborate with video artists or other musicians. And so, new dimension arise. ‘We explore. We evolve daily. We are alive’.
Danil Gertman primarily sees himself as a traditional painter, but he also works on installations, performances, animation, design, architecture and various combinations between them. In 2008 he was awarded Young artist Prize in Art and Design by Ministry of Science, Culture and Sport of Israel. Nominee of European festivals for visual effects and animation art.
Grundik Kasyansky is a London-based musician who works in experimental improvisation, live installation, audio collage, and designs sound for dance, theatre and film. He wrote poetry before switching to electronic music and it deeply influenced his current practice. He is a founding member of the pioneering Israeli experimental electronic duo Grundik and Slava. His recent releases include ‘Workshop Concert’ on Matchless Records (sextet with Eddie Prevost, Jenny Allum, Ute Kanngiesser, Dimitra Lazaridou-Chatzigoga and Daichi Yoshikawa), and ‘The Fog’ on Dromos Records (duo with pianist Sebastian Lexer).
Marjolaine Charbin is a pianist working both inside the piano with objects and with the keyboard. Originally from France, she lived for many years in Brussels and is now based in London. Since studying sound engineering and then jazz piano at the conservatoire in Brussels, she has focussed on improvised music as both a solo and collaborative performer. She has worked with a wide range of musicians and dancers, in London and across Europe, and has developped film scores and worked in devised theatre.
Tom Wheatley is a double bass and electric bass player based in, and native to, London. He plays to open the bass – sonically and physically, musically and surgically. He is actively involved in new music communities of London and elsewhere, playing with Seymour Wright, Hebronix, Eddie Prévost, John Edwards, Cynthia, Paal Nilssen-Love, Guillaume Viltard and many others.
Yoni Silver is a London based Israeli bass clarinetist, multi-instrumentalist, and composer. Tapping on sound-evolution traditions such as Noise and Spectralism, he attempts to tackle the sonic, expressive, and performative boundaries of his instrument.
