For Pressure Observations 4, Simon Allen and Jan Hendrickse are joined by Eliza McCarthy, Rebecca Salvadori and Sandro Mussida for a concert that explores intra-actions between improvisation, composition and video art.

Each artist will be creating a new work for this event.
Simon Allen is a composer and interpreter of new music using improvisation, computer, pencil and paper with equal measure. As composer and director, his Resonance At The Still Point Of Change for multiple moving images, lighting, voices and ensemble, was premiered as part of the Cultural Olympiad. In performance, film and theatre settings his collaborations include work with John Tilbury, Christian Wolff, Nigel Osborne, David Toop, Katie Mitchell, FOLK///projects and as a member of Swedish based ensemble Skogen, with Magnus Granberg and David Sylvian.
Jan Hendrickse is a composer, improvising musician and artist. His work moves between performance, installation and composition. He has recently been developing a large-scale collaborative work with Choreographer Saffy Setohy. He is currently undertaking a PhD in Composition at the University of Kent, School of Music & Fine Art.
Eliza McCarthy is a London based pianist who spends her time playing new and experimental music. Winner of the 2013 British Contemporary Piano Competition.
She has had the great pleasure of working with composers including John Adams, George Crumb, Tansy Davies, and Andrew Hamilton, and is currently collaborating with Mica Levi (Micachu and the Shapes) on an ever-growing series of solo piano works which featured in Doug Aitken’s Station to Station festival at the Barbican Centre and David Byrne’s Meltdown festival at Southbank Centre.
London-based composer, cellist, electronic performer Sandro Mussida’s work questions the identity of musical languages and traditions. In particular, he works around the interaction between acoustic, classical and electric, electronic fields, writing for orchestra, chamber and solo instruments. Central on his work is the role of the performer, the experience of the sound in space and its relation with memory.
Rebecca Salvadori is a London based visual artist. Most of her video works, visual compositions based on random discoveries follow the desire of slowing down the production processes as well as the mechanic attitude that surrounds contemporary digitally-made audiovisuals. She has performed and exhibited her audio/visual work at venues throughout Europe including Crosstalk video art Festival ( Hungary) , David Lynch’s Silencio (France ) , SCHNUCK-Glaspalais ( Netherlands ), Sophiensaele Theatre ( Deutschland ) and her video have been reviewed by The Fader, DIY, Stereogum, HUH Magazine and others.
