Hundred Years Gallery is pleased to welcome this exciting trio for one of their rare and very special concerts.
Dominic Lash is a double bass player, composer and a few other things. He is lucky enough to get to play from time to time with excellent improvisers such as John Butcher, Angharad Davies, Paul Lytton, Hannah Marshall, Alex Ward and plenty more besides. He is doing three solo performances at this year’s Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, playing music by Jürg Frey, Jakob Ullmann and Scott McLaughlin.
Jackie Walduck is a composer and improviser, whose work explores the meeting points between composition and improvisation. In 2008 she was awarded a PhD in Collaborative Composition. Since then, her music has been published, broadcast and performed across Europe and in the Middle East, with musicians as diverse as the Philharmonia, Hindustani violinist Kala Ramnath, and the Royal Army Band of Oman. Her collaborative film score for The Dress by Maggie Ford was premiered at Cannes Film Festival (2008). As a vibraphone player, Jackie leads Ignite, an improvising classical ensemble resident at Wigmore Hall, and Tactile, who work blindfold with tactile notation.
Roland Ramanan. Since his first experiences playing with legendary drummer John Stevens in 1989, Ramanan has been a continuing presence on the London improvised music scene. Constantly exploring the boundaries between composition and improvisation as well as the sound possibilities of the trumpet, he has worked with Peter Brotzmann, Eddie Prevost, Evan Parker, Simon Fell, Marcio Mattos, Alex Ward and Tony Marsh. He plays in a range of settings from pure improvisation to complex composition and points in-between. Ramanan has been a conductor and stalwart of the London Improvisers Orchestra since its inception. He has numerous recordings on Emanem, Leo and Babel records featuring small groups and a free jazz tentet playing his own compositions

Roberto Sassi is a guitarist, originally from Italy, now based in London. He has been playing, recording and touring extensively with Italian bands Cardosanto and Anatrofobia from 1993 to 2006 finding his musical path on the borders between hardcore-punk, jazz, improvisation and electronic music. He played & performed with the MGZ & Le Signore techno-theatre collective from 1992 to 2006.
As a composer he worked on soundtracks for videos & short movies (Jasper, C. Meraviglia, E. Teodorani) and with Veld(t) Veer theatre company between 2001 and 2003 and in 2005 he joined the GRIM, a music association focused on the study of improvisation and non standard composition techniques with the EAQuartett project.
In 2007 Roberto moved to London where he joined the London Improvisers Orchestra, became a prominent member of the London improvised music scene and had stints with the likes of the Cholmondeleys & the Featherstonehaughs dance company and the Glenn Branca orchestra.
His current projects include: punk/improv/jazz group VOLE with Roland Ramanan, Alex Hawkins and Javier Carmona, south London post-rock unit SNORKEL, a free-improv duo with saxophonist Ricardo Tejero and the experimental string duo An Experiment In Navigation with Xabier Iriondo.
