From March 10th to April 7th Rita Says will be taking on a residency with Hundred Years Gallery to develop a series of three new performances. These pieces will reference the history of Performance ( Fluxus, Cage, Reich ) whilst attempting to integrate human movement (the body in space) and sound production in real time.
The artist sees this residency as a unique opportunity to physically relate to the gallery space, to further explore ideas generated by her previous Hundred Years shows and to bring a greater degree of transparency to her compositional practise.
Rita Says is a London based artist whose work utilizes drawing, performance, sculpture, projection and sound. She is the Director of the Jerico Orchestra and has shown work at The Berlin Art Fair, The Victoria and Albert Museum, A & D Gallery and Hundred Years Gallery. For three years she was a resident artist at Shunt Lounge, and has worked extensively since with both Serena Bobowski (Vogue Festival 2012 and V & A) and Anna Frisch (Irreverent Sideshows) also appearing at The Merge Festival and Temple Works in Leeds. Since 2016 she has been an associate artist of Chameleon Eye Films. She is also a group member of Tino Sehgal‘s company appearing as part of his performance projects at Tate Modern, London, and The Palais De Tokyo, Paris.
Rita has had a long and fruitful relationship with Hundred Years; previous exhibitions at the gallery include Into The Ordinary, 2012 and Rita Says : New Work, 2013. Performances commissioned by Hundred Years Gallery can be seen online.
