Tasos Stamou & Alan Wilkinson: CANCELLED. Sunday 14th February 4:30-6:30pm

ORL26KALAMOS-FRONTs

Inspired by the EP title ‘Marches of the Broken Hearts’, the newly formed duo of Alan Wilkinson and Tasos Stamou will perform an improvised set that stands between melodic deconstructions and romantic noise.

Tasos Stamou is a sound artist involved in electroacoustic composition and improvised music, currently based in London. During the past few years he explored and utilized several different mediums of original sonic creation into various recordings and performances; arrangements with self-modified sound toys and found objects, electroacoustic equipment (analogue synthesizer, DIY electronics, computer applications), vivid sonic performances and sound installations. Mostly as a multi-instrumentalist of free-improvised music, he has presented live sets in solo projects and in collaboration with other experimentalists and improvisors (London Improvisers Orchestra, Evan Parker, Adam Bohman, Valerio Tricoli, Kuupuu & Lau Nau, Nikos Veliotis) around venues and festivals for innovative music. Since 2008 he runs “kukuruku recordings”, an independent label for electroacoustic ephemeral sound works. He is currently involved in music composition and sound design for theater and film.

Alan Wilkinson comes blazing out of a saxophone tradition that includes the likes of Albert Ayler, Roscoe Mitchell, Mike Osborne, Evan Parker and Peter Brötzmann, with a highly vocalized and personal style and a firm belief in the undiluted potency of spontaneous creativity. Currently he has an acclaimed trio with John Edwards and Steve Noble; the Norwegian quartet Akode; the Founder Effect with John Coxon, Steve Noble, Pat Thomas; and Freefall with Thomas, Neil Charles, and Mark Sanders. Other projects have included a quartet with Brötzmann, Fell and Willi Kellers; Alex Maguire’s Cat o’Nine Tails; Derek Bailey’s Company weeks; and collaborations with NYC duo Talibam!, Thurston Moore, Chris Corsano, Eddie Prevost, Sunny Murray, Alex Schlippenbach, and Stefan Jaworzyn. He also runs and plays regularly at his club night flimflam in London. He has recently appeared at festivals in Oslo, twice in Sardinia, Kongsberg festival in Norway, Copenhagen Jazz festival and Nickelsdorf in Austria.
